Transcription: This is a painting entitled Baptism of Pocahontas. It is the work of John G. Chapman, purchased in 1840. Pocahontas was part of the Algonquin tribe, which befriended the first American colonists in Jamestown, Virginia. There, she was baptized in 1613.
